"Film censorship is motivated by fears about technology and audiences" Discuss this statement in reference to the concerns about uncensored and unregulated video content.

We came to the conclusion through collecting ideas and points from different peers' essays that,

In the context of the 1980's, films on home video should not have been censored but regulation was and should have been enforced on films for the younger audiences. This meant that rather than the traditional views the government thought at the time. The fears specifically were motivated by the government's concern to protect the public from video nasties: images it thought were harmful and psychologically unnerving for certain audiences. Therefore they used moral panic to scapegoat their problems onto video nasties. The fear was not then about the videos and content being harmful but the fear that people would revolt against them.

When gathering information we found that although a lot of the points our peers made were similar. There was a contrast in arguments where some believed there should be no censorship whatsoever where the majority agreed with regulation for children. Therefore leading to our agreement with one synthesis made that was the structure for our thesis.
